I wanted to write something fancy to mark a day like today—to recognize the hard work and gallons of tears that went into making this magazine a reality. I wanted to tell the story of how much I grew in this process—how there were so many times that I collapsed into a chair, a dry erase marker in one hand and a tissue in the other—knowing that I was in so far over my head.
And I wanted to tell the story about dreams becoming a reality—about that amazing realization when you look back and see that so many moments have culminated into this one right here.
I wanted to tell you about the process of creating this magazine—about all of the Friday mornings that our team would sit around my living room warmed by hot coffee, donuts, and the glow of my Christmas tree (well into March…)
I wanted to stand on my soapbox and tell you that really beautiful things are happening in all of our lives and it’s time that we notice. I wanted to give an inspiring charge—this is why we should tell our stories, and these are the kinds of stories we’re capable of living—yes here, in the United States, in your very cubicle.
But I’ve sat here, mesmerized by the glow of my screen, thinking of what to say to share this with you. I’ve got nothing.
There is no charge, no drumroll, no pomp or circumstance.
Just deep peace, and deeper gratitude.
And so lets do the important stuff first and say some thank yous. And then I’ll share with you the biggest leap of faith I’ve ever taken.
Weston – Thank you for your trust. You didn’t have to believe in this vision and you certainly didn’t have to support us in running after it, but you did. Thank you for being just a little bit crazy, and for allowing us to be wildly so.
Tim, Seth, and Clint— thank you for being leaders that leave room for dreamers. And thank you for dreaming with me. Today wouldn’t have happened without you.
Lacee — there really aren’t words to explain how integral you’ve been in this thing happening. This is yours. You did this. We did this. Thank you so much for standing at the whiteboard with me, and writing as I paced. Thank you for believing in this dream too and giving your blood, sweat, tears, and expertise to this thing. This legitimately would not exist without you. I’m so glad that you’ve been my teammate throughout this whole venture. 🙂
Stephanie (Bernie) — thank you for being a dreamer too. Thank you for dreaming big with me and reminding me that this was possible. Thank you for constantly reminding me what’s good and beautiful in the world, and continuously charging me to run after it. Thank you for your hard work, your time, and your talent (two words: dinner party). Venture wouldn’t have so many things without you—and it most certainly wouldn’t have its name.
Tuttle — thank you for keeping me sane. Thank you for reminding me to breathe, and for taking a load off my shoulders every time you made me laugh. Thank you for being practical and for thinking things through, often on my behalf—we both know that I’m not very good at that. Thank you for your words and for your encouragement and for keeping my head on straight. Thank you for believing in this, and for fighting for it with me.
Heather — thank you for jumping in. You came late but you came strong. Your wit, intelligence, and creativity have been integral in the process of making this thing happen. Thank you for keeping my feet on the ground and always offering sage advice (or a snarky remark) when I needed it most. I’m so happy to have you on this team.
Ashley — thank you so much for answering all of my emails. Thank you for being not only a copy editor but a content editor, and a person to bounce ideas off of when I needed it so much. Thank you for your time and for your willingness to believe in this. I am ridiculously grateful for you. Seriously — ask anyone, they all know.
Everyone who has submitted an article— thank you for sharing your stories with us. It is an honor to be invited into your lives—and I hope that many, many people can be impacted by your stories the way we have been.
Chantell — You literally are an answered prayer in so many ways. Thank you for wandering into my life at just the right time, and most recently, thank you for wandering into my office at just the right time. That video has your stamp all over it—it could not have happened without you. Not for one second.
JohnFrank, Katie, and Ryan—You guys have been my biggest cheerleaders since the beginning. Thank you for always asking questions, always checking in, and always being available. Thank you for brainstorming and giving feedback and being patient with me when I needed it most. Thank you for your work on the Venture Video, and for all you’ve done to grow me in the last year. You are a fantastic group of people and I’m honored to have been on your team.
Emily Adkisson — Thank you for lending your beautiful eye to the Venture video. I swear, you make beauty out of everything you touch. (Please come back and decorate my apartment.)
Story Track — I haven’t even met all of you yet, but thank you for coming down here. Thank you for taking a chance on something you don’t know much about, and for your desire to learn. I can’t wait to meet you and can’t wait to spend the next four months with you.
Mitchy and Nicole and Suzy—thank you guys for your endless support. Thank you for dealing with crazy deadlines and with Copper not being updated (sorry Nicole!) Thank you for making me laugh and for brainstorming with me and for reminding me that it’s all going to be ok. You three make every single day brighter in my life and I am so grateful for you all.
Everyone in the Venture Video— Thank you x1000000 for being a part of making this dream happen. It’s an honor to be able to share your beautiful faces and beautiful lives.
And last but not least, Carl—Carl thank you for being my biggest fan. Thank you for dreaming with me in the beginning and praying with me in the end. Thank you for believing in me when I forgot to, and for wiping my tears every single time I tried to give up. Thank you for challenging me, for always pushing me to be better, and for all of the sneaky things you’ve been teaching me along the way. I am better because of you in every single way. And so is this magazine. I love you and am so grateful to have you on my team.
I think we’ve dragged this on long enough, don’t you?
Without further ado, I’m so excited to share with you the newest platform from Adventures in Missions…
