Create A Life You Love: Comes out on April 30th!

If I had to describe my life to you right now, I’d use just one word, “small.”

Life feels incredibly small to me these days. My day-to-day happens in a fairly small space, mostly curled up in my favorite spot on the couch, and our adventuring mostly happens in our minds and our plans as we curl up in front of another Netflix marathon.

Carl and I have slid into a routine—I wake up, and then he does. I work from my spot on the couch, while he’s taken over an end of the dining room table. My work attire consists of a carousel of sweatpants, and it’s always exciting to see which ones I’m going to pick. 😉 We work until we get hungry, and then we do it again, ending our work day just before dinner.

Date nights are small too. We aren't hopping around to the glamorous Nashville eateries, or staying out late soaking in the bar scene. We’re mixing creative concoctions of whatever we find in the refrigerator, and curling up for another night in our warm, glowy home, before we do it all over again.

Most of my life happens in the span of 1,200 square feet these days, and I have to tell you I love it.

Because for this season, for where we are right now, and how big and uncertain other parts of our lives sometimes feel, the smallness of our days right now is totally evidence of God’s grace and His love for us.

We need small. We need cozy, and tucked away, and quiet.

We need to be snuggled in and held tight by our schedule and our surroundings and each other—the safety of our days allowing us to relax and breathe just a little.

We need routine in our lives, even if our routines and traditions would seem totally silly to the untrained eye.

We need these things. We need life to be exactly as it is right now, and I could not be more grateful.

Our lives wont always look this way. In fact, a hefty season of traveling is right around the corner. Life will feel big again soon, which makes it all the more important that we soak in every last one of these small, tucked-away days in between.

The same is true for you, I’d bet. The season you’re in right now may not feel glamorous. It may not be Instagram or envy-worthy. But from my cozy spot on the couch, I want to remind you (and me) that it won't always be this way, and there’s so much beauty and purpose and grace right where you are today.

Wherever you are right now—in a job that’s not your favorite, waiting for a relationship, longing for a life you don’t quite have yet, or curled up on the couch in gray sweatpants that match mine—there’s beauty and purpose and grace there. We just have to take the time to look for it.

So that’s my challenge to you today.

Wherever you are—whatever the season may look like—I challenge you to curl up and enjoy it.

There are quirks and special details about this season that are unique from any other, and if you miss those today, you’re missing life.

Life happens in these in between moments, in the time when you’re trying to collect yourself, or waiting for the next big thing. Life happens right there, and so I challenge you to make the most of it.

That’s what I’m trying to do these days. I’m living up every last one of my cozy, indoor days, before I venture back out in the world. And because I soaked in all the goodness of my days in this season, I know I’ll be able to do the same in the next.

What does your season of life look like right now, and what would it look like for you to fully enjoy it?

    I like it:)
    Small is good.
    Routine is good.

    & change is also good.

    Learn to embrace it all.

  2. Emily says:

Embracing the season you’re in is a beautiful thing. I’ve been learning a lot about that lately as well!

I’m currently waiting to start college. It’s been nearly a year since I graduated high school. My life is boring, especially when I’m staying at home trying not to be bored, and all my friends are across the Atlantic. This is what I needed to hear: embracing the season I find myself in. Thanks Stephanie!!

    (P.S. I’m from Ghana. 😉

  4. Katie Cook says:

Absolutely love this and can SOOO relate to it right now! I’m finishing up my last year of grad school, and my husband is working full time and we are just enjoying the slow and very unglamorous life we lead. But it’s been so rich with meaning and small little lovelies that we have cherished! Thanks for typing out how we feel:) xoxo

Thank you, I needed to read this today 🙂

Thank you, Stephanie. I needed to hear this today. I just got married in January (and marriage is awesome!), but my husband works full-time and I’m not allowed to work yet due to my visa status here in the UK. I’ve really struggled with not having a job or school, feeling like I’m not doing enough. I needed the challenge to see the beauty in these days. 🙂 Thank you.

This was just what I needed right now. I’ll now go and enjoy my life right now and where things are at.
