1. A ballgame
Perhaps it’s because one of my very first memories of life involved a St. Louis Cardinals game, but few things in this world give me the rush of excitement and thrill of life like going to a ballgame. There is something unique and special about the community and atmosphere of baseball compared to another sport. The smell and tastes of popcorn and hotdogs, the crack of the bat, the cathedral-esque views of the stadium, and that perfect sensation of a cool breeze on a warm night is, for me, the culmination of all our human senses. A beautiful summer evening at a ballgame will always count as perfect in my book.
I would gladly debate that one of God’s greatest gifts to man is laughter. Is there anything better than breaking out in uncontrollable fits of laughing that causes tears to stream and stomachs to ache? I would convincingly argue no. Laughter is a little piece of heaven on earth. These are moments completely saturated by joy, peace, and goodwill. There is no ego in laughter. There is no comparison in laughter. These are moments when we come together to purely and freely enjoy that abundance of life our winsome Heavenly Father lovingly offers.
3. My dock
I’m a city boy at heart, but there is something special about living in the country, sitting on the dock and watching the sunset. There exists an overwhelming peace in that moment of stillness, as the earth heads to sleep. But simultaneously your heart feels an eager expectation of something great to come. Every time I walk down to my dock, I feel an accelerating anticipation of something beyond me. I can’t quite place it though. Maybe it’s the majesty of God’s creation, maybe it’s that simple whisper shouting at my soul about something transcendent, maybe it’s something impossible to describe with words. Whatever it is, I love it. And I really don’t want to leave my dock.
4. Cup of coffee in the morning
Honestly? Most days I don’t even finish a full cup in the morning. But the sight of that dark caramel and creamy liquid with the perfect amount of froth freshly poured from the french press is like a salve to my soul. It reminds me that today is going to be a good day and life is full of small simple blessings.
If I were to leave dancing off the list I’m pretty sure my friends would never let me hear the end of it. Dancing is the jam. Pure and simple. If you don’t like dancing, it’s because you are worried about what you look like and what people are thinking. I’m telling you, there is nothing in this world that can help you experience complete freedom like dancing. To lose yourself, your thoughts, your worries or your cares about what others are saying, and to be moved by soulful rhythms is a guaranteed way to experience joy and freedom you’ve never know. I’m not being dramatic. This is legit. If you’ve never experienced this, come to Georgia. We’ll have a dance party and change your life forever
