1. Hula Hooping
Not only is it great for toning the stomach…but it’s also a fun pastime. Whether I’m doing it while standing outside or in front of the tv during a 3-hour (Florida or Ohio State) football game, it’s a sure-fire way to bring a smile to my face. I love the sensation of the thin plastic whipping back and forth against my waist.
2. Warm Weather & Palm Trees
As a child some of my favorite moments were traveling to Florida on school breaks. The humidity, sun, and lovely palms light me up in a way that few other things in life do. Even now, as I reside in the sunshine state I try to look at the palms as through fresh eyes as though seeing the trees and feeling the warmth for the first time.
3. Deep, dark, boldly roasted coffee
My favorite brand is a small roaster called Oakland coffee roasters but I would give Starbucks a close second. Although almost everyone loves the smell or taste of a freshly brewed cup…I’ve found that I’m slightly unique in my love for drinking it black, dark as coal. No cream. No sugar.
Weirdness is fun. Individuality and authenticity are beautiful and in my mind there are few better compliments than being told I’m weird and quirky. God has made us each so uniquely interesting. Embrace it!
5. Paperback Books
I may seem like a Grandma but there really is something magical that takes place when you turn the pages and engage with a tangible book, compared to an e-reader. Growing up, whenever my mom bought a new book she would immediately open it up and smell the pages, saying that there was nothing like the smell of a freshly purchased book.
