1. Best friend dates
There’s a difference between friend dates and best friend dates. A best friend date is grabbing coffee with the person who understands you completely, gets your quirks and has walked through a significant part of life with you. Your best friend is someone you can laugh about the past with, help each other figure out the present and dream about the future together. The best part? Even if it’s been weeks, months or years since you’ve seen your best friend, a best friend date will reconnect you like no time has passed at all.
Opening up my mailbox and finding a freshly pressed magazine with my name on it is almost as exciting as getting a handwritten letter from a friend. For me, diving into a magazine is like catching up with an old friend, and there’s no way I’d rather spend an afternoon than flipping through its pages, reading stories about people from all over the world, or even just updating myself with the latest fashion trends. Diamonds are nice, but magazines are a girls’ real best friend.
3. The anticipation of summer
This year, winter was like that house guest who stayed one day (or month) too long, and by the end of their stay you were absolutely exhausted with entertaining, dreaming of the days you could sleep in again and let your dishes pile up. Now that winter has finally bid us farewell and spring is in full bloom, we have something else to look forward to: summer. The anticipation of summer is inescapable: it begins in grade school and stays with us all the way through college and into adulthood. Warm weather, vacations, sundresses, days on the lake; we want it all, and we’re always counting down the days until it gets here. But there is joy in anticipating, and appreciating each spring day, each new bloom and cool breeze that whispers the promise of warmer days will let us enjoy the summertime even more.
4. New music
There’s something magical about discovering a new artist, or discovering that one of your all time favorite artists has released brand new tracks. Discovering new music is like making a new friend that you just can’t wait to get to know. The lyrics and melodies are our companions for the rest of the day, always coming back to mind and shaping our perspective. So plug in your headphones, hop on Spotify and make some new discoveries. The soundtrack of your day just got brighter.
5. Trampoline parks, or any activity that will make you feel like a child
Last weekend I went to a trampoline park for the first time, and it was an absolute blast. Wall to wall trampolines, foam pits, rope swings, “interpretive jumping.” It was perfect. After my experience I’m convinced that going to a trampoline park is the absolute best thing you can do to let go of stress and just like feel like a free-spirited child. Whether it’s flipping from a trampoline into a foam pit or any other activity, we all need to take an hour and do something that makes us feel like we’re eight years old again.
