1. Holding Hands
On our second date, I knew I was having some serious heart eyes for my PJ when I didn’t want the San Francisco traffic to clear. We were sitting to bumper to bumper traffic, having on and off casual conversation, and it felt like the most natural, romantic thing ever. I couldn’t help but snap a photo of our holding hands to capture the moment for myself to remember. Traffic had never been so enjoyable, and I knew that this one, he was a keeper. Being in a long distance relationship, we don’t get to do it nearly enough, but holding that man’s hand truly is one of the loveliest things in my life.
2. Pretty Braids
I love that it’s never too late to learn a new craft, or develop a new hobby. After decades of wearing my thick, straight hair in exactly the same style day after day, and telling myself that I could never master the adorable hairstyles that I coveted on other girls, I discovered the brilliance of YouTube hair tutorials. Now, as I play with my hair and attempt to mimic instructions, I have come to appreciate the beauty of a learning process. I love that trial and error combats perfectionism, and the sense of accomplishment that comes along with each created look. Creativity is truly a lovely thing.
3. A Full Table
Boy, do I love a table full of friends and food. There is never a shortage of hands reaching for seconds, laughter at inside jokes, or thankfulness for the gift of community. God said it Himself, “it is not good for man to be alone” (Gen. 2:18). When I see a full, delicious plate before me, and the faces of my people surrounding me, I am in my happy place, indeed.
4. Coffee Dates
Anyone who follows me on Instagram knows that I am a big fan of coffee dates. Actually, anyone who’s ever looked at my Instagram page knows this, because it’s listed right in my bio. For me, there is nothing better than a good heart to heart over a delicious cup of coffee. Whether it’s a latte with a girlfriend, an iced coffee with the boyfriend, or a caramel macchiato with my brother, my heart delights in the combination of good, honest conversation over a good, strong (haha, I mean sweet) cup of coffee.
5. Morning Jesus Time
Morning Jesus time is a must for me. I can distinctly tell a difference between the days that began with some life-giving words from my God, and those that did not. My heart depends on that time, my mood depends on that time, and let’s be real, the people around me depend on that time. For me, the loveliest moments are when I wake up on my own accord, with no alarm clock and at least a few hours before any agenda kicks off, and can physically stretch out my muscles as I spiritually stretch out with some Jesus time.
